Karen Volk, House Candidate

"I wish to represent the citizens of District 14 working with and for each one!"   

Karen Volk, Harvey, has recently been endorsed as a Democratic-N.P.L. District 14 legislative candidate for the House of Representatives.  She said, "I want District 14 citizens to know that I will put the concerns and issues of our citizens first with no political games, no empty promises or party politics.  I will listen, work hard, and treat people fairly.  I wish to take the issues of our people to Bismarck to be heard."

Karen currently serves as the Wells County Public Health Nurse Administrator (past 16 years), is a Wells County Mentoring Board member, a member of the Wells Aerie Eagles Auxiliary, a member of St. Cecilia's Altar Society, and past President of the Nifty Sifter's homemaker's club.

 Bob Stringer knows the issues that matter to rural North Dakota. A 32-year resident of Sykeston, Bob is

In addition, Karen is also a member of the Life Savor's Relay for Life team, past President of the Harvey Library Board, current President of the North Dakota Public Health Association, past President of the North Dakota Public Health Foundation, current Regional Advisary Board member for the Early Explorer's Head Start Agency, former Wells County Fair Board member, and current Community Coalition member for Tobacco Prevention in Wells County. 

Karen was named "Outstanding Public Health Worker" for the state of North Dakota in 1994.   Karen has a commitment to making a community  a better place by one's actions and involvement in the community.

Karen said that several discussions and calls she's had with citizens have brought forth concerns about the high cost of living with fuel, gas, groceries, medications, health care and taxes.  She said keeping our rural communities viable while assisting local businesses along with recruiting new business opportunities is another issue District 14 citizens have indicated are important to them. 
It is necessary to have an adequate workforce, a living wage, and decrease in the number of nonfunded legislated mandates.  We want to support our local school districts and improve teachers' worth.
Karen has been married to Ron for 35 years, is the mother of 3 sons and grandmother of 2.  Karen is a Registered Nurse, graduating from N.D.S.U. in Fargo and MaryCrest College from Davenport, Iowa.  Karen grew up on a farm in western Walsh County, graduating from Edmore Public High School.  
     
   
an active member of his rural community. He is a member of the Sykeston Development Club, the Farm Bureau, The American Legion/Am Vets, the Eagles Club, the North Dakota council of Educational Leaders, and the American Paint Horse Association. Bob retired from the North Dakota National Guard, after many years of service in the armed forces.
Bob is not only active in his community; he is a leader in his community. He is a past president and director of the North Dakota Paint Horse Club and a past-president of North Dakota Small Organized Schools.
In addition to his community service and involvement, Bob is an advocate for education. He is a long-time school administrator and well-understands the pressures faced by small communities and small school districts.
Bob holds a Masters degree from North Dakota State University and a Bachelors degree from Valley City State University.
