    "Long was put on paid administrative leave in mid-November, after filing for whistleblower protection with the state and submitting allegations of employee preference, circumvention of open records laws, inappropriate salary increases and inappropriate employee designations to the attorney general's office.

    He later submitted a 26-page document to the Highway Patrol, which contained further allegations of circumvention of open meetings laws and defamation, among other things."

    "Two state employees who feel the CEO of their agency had it in for them are looking to get their jobs back now that their boss has been fired.

    "But the attorneys for James Long and Todd Flanagan said neither man was contacted by North Dakota's Workforce Safety and Insurance agency after Sandy Blunt was let go Thursday."

  • WSI warrant was just for journal

    "An Oct. 19 search of Workers Safety and Insurance offices did not go beyond the scope of a seized journal belonging to the agency's communications director, according to a warrant obtained Wednesday by the Tribune.

    "The warrant, used by the Burleigh County state's attorney's office to obtain the journal belonging to Mark Armstrong, named it as something that 'constitutes evidence of a criminal offense.' "
