Jim Long for ND Senate

Support Jim

Jim was prompted to run for elected office after he reported wrongdoing at North Dakota's embattled Workforce Safety and Insurance (WSI). When his reports appeared to have fallen on deaf ears, he became a vocal activist to address what he saw as corruption in state government and a fundamental disconnect between public agencies and their missions of public service.  He notes that although the ongoing controversy involving WSI is what spurred him to act, he is not a one-issue candidate.

Long is a veteran of the Marine Corps and served in the first Persian Gulf Conflict where he was awarded the Combat Action Medal. During his speech in to the District 14 Democrats, Jim said he supports our troops, but believes that they should be used in an appropriate manner.

In 2004, Long completed his PhD and published a 124 page study of the nursing crisis that is currently plaguing the healthcare industry. “Statistics tell us that 90% of the nation’s long-term care facilities have an inadequate number of nurses to meet many of the most basic healthcare needs for its residents.

Today, there are close to 150,000 nursing positions that cannot be filled. It is predicted that by the year 2020 this number will increase to over 400,000. We all depend on nursing to care for us and our loved ones. It is in everyone’s best interest to invest in these professionals.”

Long also addressed education as another of his key platform issues. “It is deplorable that North Dakota’s teachers are among the lowest paid in the nation. When we chose to pay the people who develop our children a substandard wage, we are telling them that they hold little value to us. We need to invest in our educators and the resources they use to ensure the youth of North Dakota continue to receive education that will provide them a competitive advantage later in life."

Your support is crucial. District 14 is currently represented by an incumbant who has helped oversee WSI for a long-period of time. A change in leadership is clearly needed.
