Jim Long is running as a senatorial candiate for the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party, District 14. He made headlines across the state when he reported numerous perceived violations of law at North Dakota's embattled Workforce Safety and Insurance where he was the Chief of Support Services.
Jim is running on a platform to eliminate corruption in North Dakota state government. However, in his address to District 14 Democratic-NPL leaders, he said "I am not a one issue candidate. I have a diverse background in technology, finance, and labor that will help make North Dakota a better place to live and work. However, it would be disingenuous for me to tell you that WSI is not one of my hot-button issues. I have my ears pinned back and I am coming at anyone who contributes or condones the corruption at WSI."
Jim's primary issues include:
Jim Long is a life-long North Dakotan. He grew up in Minot and Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School.
After high school, Jim served in the United States Marine Corps, beginning as an avionics technician and ending as a Maintenance Control Supervisor. He served in high-tempo combat operations overseas, including the first Persian Gulf conflict; he was awarded a combat action medal for his service.
After his military service, Jim returned to North Dakota and worked full-time while attending college full-time. He graduated with two Masters degrees and later earned a PhD in Organization and Management with an emphasis in Leadership. His doctoral research concerned the effect of leadership among nurse-managers in a major North Dakota hospital.
Jim teaches for a private college located in Bismarck. He teaches a wide-range of business and accounting classes, from Business Ethics to Government and Fund Accounting.
He has been married for 18 years to his wife, Kimberly. They live in rural Burleigh county where they raise quarter horses on a small hobby farm.
